EMA / College Application:

At First Rung we fully recognise that every learner should receive all the assistance they need in applying for Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA).
At interview we support all learners in requesting an application form on line via the EMA website. We offer help in completing all questions asked, speeding up the application for EMA and enblling APB to check the bank details of the client before they receive the signed forms back.

We encourage the learner to bring in completed part A, B and C to check all questions have been answered and that the relevant documentation is enclosed before sending to the Assessment Payment Office.
We liaise with the parent/guardian/carer if needed, to offer advice and guidance on completing their part of the application.

If a learner does not have a Bank Account (necessary requirement for EMA) we will recommend a suitable bank to visit and advise which documents that bank will accept for opening an account.

We liaise with keyworker/social worker if the learner is on benefits to support the learner to change from Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) to Income Support (IS) so they will also be eligible for EMA.

We also hold EMA application forms on site for people who may not be joining First Rung from Connexions, or where they are not available through YOTS.

Whatever a learner's position we fully support each learner on a one to one confidential basis to gain access to financial support they are entitled to receive to support them through their time at First Rung.
