This campaign has been launched in direct response to vital needs of young people who face significant challenges in gaining work place skills to support their future career prospects.
Deputy CEO Denis Dillon says “We recognise that this is a very difficult time for businesses, but we are asking employers for a donation of their time to give young people the opportunity of direct experience in a real working environment. Every single work placement pledged will support a young person to become more employable, allow them to gain invaluable workplace experience and equip them with the skills they need to compete in a job market decimated by Covid-19”.
Work placements offer life-changing opportunities for young people.
Young person Nagiib Abdulle, aged 18 says “I had nothing to do when we went into lockdown. When First Rung gave me the opportunity to do a work placement I was relieved and felt very lucky. I worked extra hard in order to show my employer what I am capable of and I feel the experience will now help me to find a new job”.
