The Covid-19 Impact on Young People
More than half a million young people in the UK are now unemployed with new data showing that 16 to 24-year-olds have been hardest hit by the impact of Covid-19 on the jobs market.
Young people have been disproportionally affected by the pandemic and now face significant worry and uncertainty about their employment prospects both now and in the future.
The Placement Pledge
The First Rung Work Placement Pledge is a voluntary declaration by businesses and charitable organisations that wish to demonstrate their support and commitment to improving the employment chances for young people by pledging a work experience placement.
Work placements provide young people with direct experience in a real working environment, making them more employable and allowing them to gain important workplace skills before entering the job market.
100 Placements in 100 Days
We are asking organisations to support our campaign of creating 100 placement opportunities in 100 days by pledging an offer of work experience between November 2020 and April 2021.
This campaign launched on 12th November 2020 in direct response to vital needs of young people who face significant challenges in gaining work place skills to support their future career prospects.
Work placements are unpaid but where organisations are able, we encourage the support of young people’s lunch and travel costs.
To reflect ongoing changes to Coronavirus guidelines, actual work placements can take place anytime between November 2020 and June 2021 to allow organisations maximum flexibility in support of the campaign.
All business and charitable organisations, large or small, can get involved and to champion this essential campaign and help us achieve this target.
