Kickstart

Employers, can you offer a young person a job placement that will give them the experience they will need?

Job Placements will be fully funded by the government.

The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to employers to create job placements for 16 to 24 year olds in receipt of Universal Credit who are at risk of long term unemployment.

Through the scheme employers will have access to a wide pool of talented young people with great potential and are ready for a new challenge.

Employers of all sizes can apply for funding which covers:

  • 100% of the National Minimum Wage (or the National Living Wage depending on the age of the participant) for 25 hours per week for a total of 6 months
  • associated employer National Insurance contributions
  • employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions

The job placements created with Kickstart funding must be new jobs. They must not:

  • replace existing or planned vacancies
  • cause existing apprentices, employees or contractors to lose or reduce their employment

Employers can spread the start date of the job placements up until the end of December 2021.

As a Kickstart Gateway, First Rung will help employers access funding for job placements through the scheme.

First Rung will also provide employers and young people with a comprehensive support package to support young people to develop new skills and to help them move into sustained employment after they have completed their Kickstart funded job.
