Tim Young
Board Member
Tim qualified as a medical doctor in the 1990s and has specialised in neurology for the last 25 years. He has always had a passion for supporting education and is currently a professor of teaching at University College London (UCL). Tim has a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from Cambridge University, a Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Authority in the UK, and in 2024 was awarded a UK National Teaching Fellowship. He has considerable experience as a member (and chair) of various boards within UCL where he has also provided mentoring and coaching.
Although much of Tim's work has been at the higher education level, with a PhD and teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates for some 30 years, he is also passionate about supporting the education of school age students and those who have recently completed schooling. This passion stems from when he was a teenager, when he struggled for years to remain at school.
Tim has provided advice as a member of the UK Department of Education T Level Health Action Group. He has voluntarily helped provide mock interviews for students facing disadvantages, the majority of whom had not previously had experience with interviews. Tim has also voluntarily helped students prepare successfully for Foundation Science exams.
When not working, Tim loves walks and (very slow) runs through the countryside south of London.
