Quality & Curriculum

Intent

To engage with disadvantaged young people in the local community who need an alternative to sixth form or FE to take the first steps of their career.

To engage with local employers to provide skilled motivated and well-prepared candidates to meet their business recruitment needs.

To offer an attractive and broad high-quality provision in small accessible groups. This will include vocational training to build the skills needed to move into work. In addition, maths, English, ICT and a broad range of employability skills is offered to learners, alongside high levels of personal support.

Implementation

First Rung offer a broad curriculum with a range of vocational areas:

  • AAT - Accountancy

  • Teaching Assistant

First Rung offer entry points at a range of levels to suit every learner starting point with programmes for learners with SEND, pre-apprenticeship development through Traineeships and progression to Apprenticeships at levels 2&3.

Impact 2020-2021

  • Traineeship - Pass Rate 87%, Study Programme 59%

  • Apprentices - 60% achieved (Excludes AAT data, learners unable to take EPA due to Covid).

  • Progression – 69% of Study Programme Learners and 71% of Trainees progressed to a positive destination (FE, Apprenticeship or employment).
